Remove the damaged vinyl wear layer exposing the felt backing.

Put the patch and excess trimmed piece back together and apply the adhesive fully to the back of the patch piece.

With a sharp razor scraper carefully remove the felt backing. Do not disturb the surrounding vinyl flooring.

Once clean it’s a good idea to test fit for size before the glue is applied.

Insert the patch, roll in the adhesive securely and seam seal as necessary.

Spread the vinyl adhesive on the subfloor right up to the edge of the existing vinyl flooring.

The first order of business is to find an extra piece of material and lay it over the damaged area, taping it down securely.

Lay your straight edge of choice along where you want to cut and follow the edge with your knife cutting through both layers.

Displace the patch making sure you have cut cleanly on all sides. Notice the arrow for orientation purposes.

Remove the excess material to expose the floor. Don’t discard the excess just yet.
